This fine studio piece is marked "J. Dearden, '77" and features a Monterey Cypress tree as its central feature. The tree is applied to the form of the vase and "rooted" to the bottom section of the vase form, and acts as its base. Measuring 10 3/4" tall and 4" wide, this highly aesthetic and conceptual ceramic piece is likewise noteworthy for the depth of the glazes and its impeccable craftsmanship. The vase is in pristine condition with no cracks or chips, and is most probably from the "back to the earth" era of California pottery making. Acquired in Northern California, and one of the finest vases of its kind that I have come across.
