This very fine chromo lithograph is noteworthy in that it dates from the earliest period of chromo lithography and can be dated to 1880-1895, though there is a high possibility that it could be from as early as 1865. The French were at the “cutting edge” of chromo lithography and this work has been authenticated as being from that most early period. The image size measures 12” x 6 7/8” in its original hand-cut mat of 17” x 12” , and is signed R. Mainella on the bottom right. In original 19” x 14” gilt wood frame (non-original glass). This fine lithograph by Raffaelle Mainella shows the influence of the English artist David Roberts, whose Nubian imagery in the Holy Lands was very popular during the mid 1800’s. The image is in excellent condition, with just minor foxing to the mat.
