For your consideration, an oil on board painting by Edith Ward Hunt (1868-1957). This late career work, circa 1940’s – 1950’s, displays a modernist aesthetic and was created in the final decade of Hunt’s life. The painting is in excellent vintage condition and measures approximately 6” x 6” in its 7” x 7” custom wood frame. The work is signed “Edith Hunt”; the signature has been identified as being that of Edith Ward Hunt. A charming and highly aesthetic work, and one that shows well with all styles of décor.
Edith Ward Hunt was born in Iowa on November 12, 1868. A painter, she specialized in impressionist landscapes and still life works. From 1914-1926 she resided in Yakima, Washington. From the early 1930's she resided, and painted, in Oakland, California. Hunt was an artist member of the prestigious Carmel Art Association. Her works were exhibited widely in Northern California. In 1939 she exhibited at the Oakland Art Gallery (now the Oakland Museum). During her later years she resided in Santa Clara, California. She died there on October 16, 1957.
