For your consideration, a Mid Century etching “Woodscape” signed “John (Jay, James?) Marcus ‘56”. The work is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs and measures 18” x 15”, framed 27 ¼” x 25 ¼”. The etching features two figures, with dog, in an abstract composition, most probably representing a forest. Additionally, the dramatic stage-like treatment of the subject matter invites a theatrical interpretation of the work’s subject, suggesting a theater or film stage. These visual elements include a central rectangular form, lines that seem to “drape”, and circular details found as elements in the composition. Identified with the label on the verso “Picures and Framing Rike-Kumler Co.”. A highly evocative work, and one that shows well in every setting and with all styles and periods of décor.
