For your consideration, a rare floral still life painting by the noted American artist Edwin Eugene Herron (1907-1984). The circa 1960 – 1970’s work features a floral arrangement rendered in a distinctively modernist palette of greens, off-whites, and burnt umber and translucent blues. The painting is noteworthy for its “watercolor” aesthetic; layers of paint are applied in translucent layers or washes. The oil on canvas painting measures 27” x 20” and is in excellent vintage condition. Herron was born in Chinook, MT on Aug. 20, 1907. While studying in Paris, Herron exhibited at the Paris Salon. He was active in San Francisco during the 1930s. As an employee of the WPA, he did a series of lithographs and political caricatures. Herron was an artist for Intercontinental Press, a journal published in New York from 1963 to 1986 on behalf of the United Secretariat of the Fourth International. This collection consists of 206 drawings by Herron and an issue of Intercontinental Press from August 1, 1977. Many of the drawings relate to politics of the 1970s and contain caricatures of prominent domestic and foreign leaders. In his later years Herron moved north to Fort Bragg, CA where he remained until his demise on Nov. 3, 1984. Provenance: Fort Bragg
