For your consideration, a signed and dated abstract expressionist watercolor, by the noted American artist Corban Lepell (b.1933), circa 1955. This supremely modernist watercolor features subtly nuanced color fields in shades of greens, grays, mauve, international orange, and off-whites. The works composition displays a sophisticated architectural style that is also very organic in feeling. The unframed painting is in excellent condition with no foxing, stains, or creases, and measures 26” x 20” (66cm x 51cm). The paper stock is a beautiful naturally-textured hand-made velum. The watercolor is notated on the verso with the artist’s signature,”Corban Lepell”, “1955”, and title “Geordie” (Geordie /ˈdʒɔrdi/ is both a regional nickname for a person from the larger Tyneside region of North East England and the name of the Northern English dialect spoken by its inhabitants. Corban Lepell Bio: Graduated from East High School in Wichita then attended the Univ. of Nebraska, Lincoln. Earned a MFA in 1959 at the Univ. of Wichita and founded the Wichita State Univ. literary magazine Mikrokosmos in 1958. Taught at Northwestern Univ. from 1961-63. Taught art at California State Univ., Hayward and was living in Hayward in the 1990s.
