A large vase from Ercole Barovier's Argo series. The technique involves applying a rod lattice to clear glass, creating a vase that feels both airy and substantial. Gorgeous aquamarine and opaque white on clear. This is an important early version of the Argo vase, unlike the reissue versions produced a decade or two later that looked quite different.
Ercole Barovier was arguably the most important of the Murano glass artists during the golden age of modern Italian glass making. This well documented large piece is evidence of his design leadership and technical ingenuity, and will be a standout in any serious collection.
It is in excellent, no issues condition.
I have included a picture of page 151 of Rosa Barovier Mentastis book "Venetian Glass 1890 -1990" showing a similarly coloured Argo vase for comparison.
