This large vase is from Fritz Dreisbach's important series of Mongo Vases. His Mongo series is based on his view that some of his most exciting results come from the added effort and skill needed to handle very large blown glass objects. This vase, like most Mongos, has a free form, dynamic quality to it. It is a very substantial and well made piece in attractive amber glass with a novel green glass foot comprised of three pyramids.
Dreisbach is a highly lauded american art glass creator. His pieces are in numerous prestigious museums (Smithsonian, Cooper Hewitt, Corning etc.), he has recieved the highest honours from the major artisan societies and he has taught glass art skills in 130 schools (including Pilchuk, Penland etc.). From 1971 when he was a founding member of the Glass Art Society, he has been a central contributor to the rise of the american art glass movement. If you are a collector of glass from the leading lights of american art glass, this is an especially nice addition to your collection.
This Mongo vase is in excellent condition with no issues. It is very cool.
