Benvenuto Barovier was Ercole Barovier's father and part of the incredible succession of Barovier glass makers working at the family company founded in 1295(!) This piece is dated to 1914 and has a very modern sensibility. It is in transparent amethyst glass that has been iridized. Black glass with gold leaf buttons and trailing has been applied and the bowl shape has a soft curve to it. The bowl is elevated on a simple pedestal. Benvenuto Baroviers work in this era indicates a number of modern glass design ideas were beginning to take shape even before the 1920s. The bowl is rare and beautiful as well as a great proto-modern artifact. It is in excellent condition except for an interior annealing crack that cannot be felt. There are no chips or glass loss on the bowl.
