As gentlemen through 19th and 20th centuries had their pocket watches,
ladies wore theirs on guard chains on the neck.
The chains also were used for attaching lorgnettes or lockets.
Presented chain is a good example of those guard chains.
It is of Y shape. The around neck part is 24 1/2" long.
The drop part is 4 3/4" long.
Silver plated links adorned with blue enamel.
The links are 7/16" long.
The necklace is equipped with a spring ring clasp hallmarked STERLING.
The other spring ring clasp for a watch, or lorgnette, or locket
is also stamped STERLING.
Total weight is 12.4 grams.
One link has a missing interior embellishment.
Silver plating links shows some age wear.
