Presented is 19th century gold witch's heart stick pin or tie pin.
A heart in jewelry was a very popular symbol of love and devotion
since ancient times. Then in 17th century literary new twist appeared
in the symbol - the tip of the heart started twisting to the left of the wearer,
signifying protection from evil.
By 19th century the meaning of the twisted heart changed to show
that the wearer is bewitched with love. A person of either sex
could wear this love token.
The heart on the pin is shaped with a twist towards left side of the wearer.
There is a sun like middle with sparkling diamond on the center.
The top edges of the heart adorned with seed pearls.
The heart measures 12 mm X 10 mm (7/16" X 3/8").
The whole stick pin is 2 1/8" long.
There is no hallmarks, tested 14K gold.
It weighs 1.6 grams.
Excellent antique condition.
