A fine rare Tibetan Tribal Necklace from Yunnan province of China.
It dates of Qing dynasty period, approximately 1880 -1890.
Tibetan artists are famous for their skillful work.
They used local gems like turquoise,
gems from India, and from far away, like Mediterranean coral from Italy.
Antique jewelry from the area is highly sought after by collectors
as a very few authentic pieces left.
It is common practice to pass jewelry through generations and locals
normally reluctantly trade their heirloom.
Presented necklace is of sophisticated design and includes a few focal points.
The center piece is a hand wrought round filigree silver stylized Sun
with a 9/16” round salmon coral cabochon set in zigzag bezel.
The central piece is 2 1/2” X 2 1/2”.
There is a 3” drop from the central piece. It has a salmon coral bead
and a large malachite bead capped with filigree rosettes.
Filigree rosettes on the malachite bead are enameled.
Malachite bead is 7/8” diameter.
This drop ends with hand engraved silver chime with no tongue.
The central piece is suspended from 2 silver hand chased elements
with 4 silver chains.
Each element adorned with 1/2” round rare oxblood red coral cabochons in zigzag bezels.
These 2 silver elements measure 2 7/8” X 1 7/8”.
There are 2 long chain drops hanging from the chased pieces.
Each drop is 5 1/4” long.
At the end of the chains there are thick coral rondelle beads,
5/8” turquoise beads with conical filigree silver top
and filigree rosette underneath.
The chains are terminated with hand engraved silver chimes
with working tongues.
Each chased silver element connected to 2 turquoise beads,
with long filigree silver beads, and a large 7/8” salmon coral
rondelle bead in between.
Fancy chased link chain completes the necklace.
The necklace is long enough to be pulled over one’s head
to wear around the neck.
The necklace is approximately 23” drop with chain folded.
The central station is approx. 6” wide as it shown on the mannequin.
It is 13” long from top turquoise beads to the chime in the center.
There is no hallmarks, metal purity tests as low content silver.
All the stones are natural, undyed.
Silver covered with beautiful antique patina.
The necklace weight is 244 grams
Excellent antique condition commensurate with age.
