This masterfully crafted gilded brass locket features a large oval malachite cabochon.
Paisley curves on it are typical for this fine Russian mineral available
in the 19th century.
The brooch dates approximately 1860 -1880.
The stone is set in finely toothed bezel and mounted on the domed
filigree locket with clear crystal back showing equally beautiful back
of the malachite.
The stone measures 1 1/8” X 7/8”.
The brooch is 1 3/4” X 1 1/2”
The clasp is of C type with long tubular hinge.
There is a small chip at the edge of the inner side of the crystal.
Gilding is in good shape with insignificant fleabite dots
consistent with the age of the brooch.
There are 2 inconspicuous chips on the edge of the malachite under the bezel.
Excellent antique condition.
