Presented is Georgian gold mourning brooch C.1820's. It is typical sentimental jewelry piece in memory of a loved one. The brooch measures 18" X10mm (11/16" X 3/8") and weighs 1.9 grams. It is adorned with a row of natural half pearls along the perimeter. The pearls still have their luster undamaged. The center of the brooch is occupied by human hair locks beautifully braided into symmetrical pattern which is protected with domed crystal. The crystal is in good shape. The back of the brooch is solid polished gold with one scratch (see picture). There is no hallmarks, gold is acid tested 15K purity. The C clasp and the hinge of the pin are typical for the period. Overall excellent antique condition commensurate with age. We cleaned the brooch superficially to preserve it's antique look.
