Antique Japanese Meiji Menuki Shakudo mixed metal horses tiepin clip C. late 1800's. The 1 1/2" long clip realistically depicts two running horses, one in yellow gold, the other in bronze with yellow gold spots. The clip itself is made of silver metal (we think it is steel). The horses are made of bronze with gold accents. The pin is of very good antique condition commensurate with age. Samurai sword smiths started making this type of the jewelry after samurai society was disbanded and outlawed with Meiji reform in the late 19th century. Menuki refers to ornate mountings of Japanese sword (katana).
