This adorable brooch is a great example of Victorian era jewelry. Ladies at that time were wearing watches hung on the brooches like this unlike the men who carried watches in the vest pocket. It was and still can be worn as an eye catching brooch. The brooch designed as collection of dimensional puffy scrolls adorned with natural turquoise pave and seed pearls. The brooch measures 1 7/8" wide, 1 1/4" tall, 3/8" thick, and weighs 6.9 grams. The stones are set in silver to match color of the stones. This technique was used in jewelry making before wide use of platinum started in 1870's. The C clasps of the period were not reliable and the jewelry with such clasps were lost quite often. Apparently the owner of the brooch ordered original clasp replaced with newly invented secure C clasp at the beginning of 20's century. The brooch is not hallmarked, 14K gold tested. No missing stones.
