SIZE: 3 ins h x 4 ins w (7.5 x 10 cms) 4 ins (10 cms) fully extended
APPROXIMATE DATE: 1890s – 1900s
A superb pair of Victorian opera glasses. They are constructed from brass with pierced and fretted bone panels on the outer barrels. The close up pictures show the small black flecks in the surface which are characteristic of bone. The design of the piercings resembles moucharabia panels on screens and has an Islamic character.
The focus wheel in the centre opens the glasses to full length to adjust focus. The optics are clean and scratch free with good, smooth, sharp focussing.
An excellent example of a useful and highly collectable optical instrument which can still be sued at the opera or theatre, etc.
