DESCRIPTION:

A beautiful Art Nouveau moulded brass two part belt buckle or clasp in hammered metal. It has two circular elements and a motif of ivy leaves. This is a popular motif in Victorian jewellery and personal ornaments and symbolises fidelity.

These pretty ornaments are in wearable condition and would suit collectors, re-enactors or anyone interested in recreating the look of the early 20th century.

Alternately, the two part examples could also be mounted upon fabric and worn as a choker or dress ornament.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

The first Art Nouveau ornaments were hand made. These were very expensive and beyond the means of working people. These were quickly followed by mass produced versions made in celluloid and stamped out metal for the popular market. These cheaper versions reproduced the typical motifs of the genre, but were produced by machine. Typically they were made with a swirling asymmetric design suggestive of organic or animal forms.

This lovely ornament is part of a large private collection of jewellery, belt buckles and fabric embellishments currently in my shop and shown in the final picture.
