Here is a pretty rhinestone studded headband or tiara, which probably dates from the mid 20th century. This versatile ornament may be worn in a number of ways. It can be placed flapper style across the forehead for Gatsby party. It can we worn as a conventional headband with a hair down style of any length. It can also be worn with a glamorous up do to encircle a high chignon or topknot.

The foundation of the design is a band of silver tone metal. This is encrusted with prong set clear rhinestones in a deep pink colour. The ornament is flexible and can be made to fit various head sizes.

This is certainly a very beautiful and classic headpiece, not too large or showy for modern taste. It would make an ideal headdress for a maid of honour or a bride who likes something different.

One of the signature “looks” of the mid 20th century was a style which we call Hollywood Regency, and which was pure glamour and glitz. Hollywood Regency is an American style which is sometimes known outside the USA as neo-Baroque. It evokes all the glitz and glamour of old Hollywood movies, hence the name.

In hair accessories and jewellery it is usually characterised by elaborate designs featuring bold settings of rhinestones, intermixed with coloured stones and/or faux pearls in elaborate gold or silver tone settings. Some of the most beautiful and high quality jewellery and hair ornaments in this style were produced in the USA. We can say that the influence of Hollywood and the great screen goddesses of the 1940s and 1950s were of great significance in promoting this larger than life look.
