Here is a beautiful theatrical headdress auctioned off when the costume department and props of an old opera company was closing down. These headdresses were worn by the fairies in a production of “A Midsummer Nights Dream”
This wonderful tiara features hand made red cherries made in celluloid. Such artificial fruits were made in Germany or Czechoslovakia around the 1940s – 1950s. Each fruit is mounted upon a light weight wire stalk which enables it to be arranged to suit the taste of the wearer. These are wired onto a fabric covered foundation. In between are placed fabric leaves set on fine wire. Most of the berries appear to be intact and in good shape despite their age.
The headdress has been mounted for theatrical wear on a tiara band. Being made for the theatre, rather than retail sale to consumers, the emphasis is upon the overall effect on stage. Hence the underlying construction is rather rough and ready, as is often the case with theatrical ornaments. These are vintage supplies which have been stored for many years and may need some re-shaping of the leaves and components.
These attractive vintage headdresses allow us to bring the glamour of bygone eras into our lives, and enjoy their beauty once again. This wreath would be ideal for a vintage bride who likes something different or her attendant. It is ideal for a rustic wedding. It could also be used for pageants, cosplay, LARP or any kind of fancy costume occasion where a fairy or rustic effect is desired. The use is limited only by the imagination of the buyer.
