Here is an important unsigned Claire Deve large and chunky bangle bracelet in gold coloured metal. It has been cast into an openwork shape with embellishments in resin secured with coloured cord. This bold and eye-catching design is typical of the work of this designer who has supplied pieces for some of the great Paris fashion houses.

Claire Deve is celebrated for her bold and innovative jewellery. She worked for some of best French haute couture houses in the 1980’s and the 1990’s designing striking runway pieces for the great fashion houses such as Claude Montana, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Lanvin and Chanel.

Claire Deve jewellery is greatly sought after but her pieces are difficult to find and therefore highly collectable.

Her work is in line with elements of Post-modernist design such as the break-up of the barrier between fine art (in this case jewellery) and popular culture through the use of industrial materials. In this bracelet we see the exciting process of challenging the existing order of things, questioning values and blurring boundaries. This characterized the practice of much artisan jewellery in the late 1970s and early 1980s. At this time jewellery designers were questioning the adherence to conservative forms, the use of precious materials and a predominance of decoration over comment. There was space for something much more exciting and relevant which produced work that communicated a different set of values.
