This is a fine and very substantial large ethnic style clamper bracelet in antiqued silver tone metal. It has a repousee design which is further embellished with black enamel and silver tone in between to form a giraffe type pattern.
In the 1970s the “back to nature” trend continued a popular taste for natural materials and motifs which were begin in the 1960s by the hippies. Faux materials which resembled these substances and glass and resin nuggets are also found in jewellery. The enamelled “giraffe” type pattern on this clamper is typical of the trend.
Artisan jewellery became popular and many ornaments had a distinctive “hand made” appearance. Surface treatments such as engraving, repousee, piercing and enamelling were widely used for the decoration of jewellery made from plain metal. Some pieces had a distinctive three dimensional look. Ethnic and tribal influences were high fashion during this period.
