This handsome two part belt buckle is made in heavy cast silver tone metal (white metal) and is possibly Anglo Indian. This means that it was made in India not for a member of the indigenous population but for export to the West.
Items featuring “Indian” motifs such as elephants, peacocks, and so on were exported in large numbers to Britain in the days of the empire.
The buckle is made in imitation of a classic western style nurses buckle but the fastening is typically oriental.
