This is part of a large collection of jewelry which I recently purchased from the estate of Anita Stern owner of the iconic ““This N That”” Antique Jewelry Store in New York City. Many of these items still carry their original retail labels.
This wonderful bracelet was purchased from the estate of Anita Stern, the owner of the famous “This 'n' That Collectables” based in New York. As a girl, Anita began her own collection with Bakelite purchased from Woolworth’s and later grew to love the glitzy jewelry of the 1980s, which she specialised in. This was the beginning of a lifetime of collecting vintage jewellery.
The store was established in 1990s and carried a very varied stock. Featured in such high end magazines as Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, the shop became an international designer resource for fashion print and runway as well as one for costumers accessorizing films. Jewelry from the shop has been featured in dozens of international publications, graced the runway of an astonishing number of designers, accessorized fashion shoots and been seen in films. Much of the jewelry from Cher’s movie, Burlesque, was acquired at This’n’That.
The costume jewellery industry flourished in the 1980s, and women experienced a new freedom and confidence to wear frankly fake fashion jewellery. In fact, the bigger and glitzier the better! In the USA glamour came in the far reaching influence of Television shows like Dallas and Dynasty, which were watched by millions of viewers around the world. The shows epitomized an era of glamour and decadence that later became the hallmark of the American primetime soap operas of the 1980s.
