This old tobacco jar is a fine example of skilled hand carving. It was likely made sometime around 1900 in the Soviet Union and is marked as such on the bottom. Carved from a single piece of wood and has a detailed pattern. Measures approximately 5 inches across and 5 1/8 inches high. Warm wooden patina and the top has darkened more than the sides. Some very small chips off the jar top and a few on the sides.
