Beautiful patina on this handsome and early frame. Probably made sometime between 1780-1820. It is pine and originally it was gilded and also seems to have been silvered. As you can see, time has worn and mellowed it the gilding. The result is a perfectly shabby surface with subtle and light tones of gold, gray, and a gray-green-sage color. Measures approximately 16 7/8 inches x 19 1/4 inches and the inner opening is 10 7/8 inches x 13 inches. Two metal screws on the back for wire; wood on back has darkened. Makes a fantastic surround for a small painting, embroidery or sampler of the same era.
