A beautiful example of French tole work. This classic lamp was decorated with classic bucolic French landscapes in yellow and black. Originally, the lamp was made in the 19th century and meant for oil or kerosene, then converted to electric sometime around 1920-30s. Tole work was applied onto a cylinder base and the burner portion was left intact. Measures about 20 1/2 inches high (the base is approximately 11 inches high).
The base is brass, felt covered across bottom and is around 4 1/2 inches across; two pull chain sockets (one worked when tested, the other did not). No lamp shade but the original was barrel shaped and had light yellow paper. With noted exception, worked when tested but needs re-wiring, missing finial. Even so, this type of lamp is very scarce and rarely comes along.
