This rare candy holder was ingeniously designed and perfectly charming. It was probably made sometime around 1880-1900 in Germany and Dresden is likely. A figural container, the goose likely held holiday sweets likely for Easter though Christmas is also possible. Paper mache covered with soft tissue paper; the beak is wooden and the webbed feet were formed with paper covered wire. Hinged wing opens on one side. Hinge works very well. Measures around 1 5/8 x 3 5/8 x 3 3/4 inches high. Worn on outside as you can see. Even so, a great addition to any collection.
