Beautifully made and circa 1860-1880. This winter bonnet was probably made in New England and cut from silk, was treadle machine quilted and has cotton batting. While probably sewn for a child, it is small and could be used for a doll: measures about 5 inches from crown to back of neck edge, 14 inches from brim edge to brim edge; and 9 3/4 inches, from neck edge to neck edge. Outer fabric worn and splitting; ribbons are about 14 inches long and are faded, splitting.
