This chaet is a scarce example of 19th Century educational instruction. It provided a graphic visual of Spencerian writing and geometry. School and Family Charts were composed by Maricus Willson and N. A. Calkins and published by Harper & Brothers. Spencerian alphabets with charming illustrations and common written words on one side. Other side has drawing illustrations, geometric figures and perspective visuals. Multi-color offset print, marked on the bottom with the publisher's name and a date of 1862 but probably made in the 1870s, 1880s. Measures about 23 1/4 in. x 31 in.; two small openings at top edged in brass. Paper on heavy cardboard; paper edging. Some darkening on one side; other side has some fading; edge wear, crimping at a corner and one edge about 3 inches. Even so, an influential teaching tool advancing literacy and math during the era.
