Clever and intricately made. This old puzzle is a fine example of sailor made folk art.
The puzzle was made from pieces of wood with a slit at each end. A single piece of cord was knotted at one end then strung through the slits and knotted at the end.
Inside the puzzle is an orange amber fish float. The float is a blob top and has small bubbles in the glass. Measures about 7 1/4 in. across and 5 1/4 in. high.
Probably made sometime around 1880-1910 but I don't know where. Patina on the wood, glass a bit soiled on the outside.
