These high beat mechanisms were the crowning achievement of mechanical watches. The end of the line - so to speak. They are a marvel to hear ticking; quite unlike low beat mechanisms. Because they are so susceptible to dust and dirt, they come in a one-piece, top-loading case. As such, they use molydisulphide lubricant to keep them going. This helps them from getting gummed up. If you haven't had one of these, do yourself a favor and get ahold of one. Unlike quartz mechanisms, these have a heartbeat!
The 100% original silver brushed enamel finish dial is in flawless condition – untouched since it left the Longines factory. It features, applied gold hour markers, original gold metal Dauphine-style hands, semi-quickset gold framed date windows at the 3 position and `sweep' gold center seconds hand. The date can be set advancing quickly by moving hands past midnight and backing hands to 11:30 and past midnight until you reach desired date. Signed LONGINES below the 12 and ULTRA-CHRON with Ultra-Chron logo in applied gold above. It is further signed SWISS at the base of the dial, below the edge of the crystal so hard to see.
