Claude William Harrison (British, 1922 - 2009) “Pierrette with Irises”, 1991, tempera painting on masonite, framed in original artist painted frame, signed and dated lower left, additionally signed, titled and dated verso. Measures 15in x 14in framed and 8.25in x 7.25in image only. Condition: Painting in excellent vintage condition, frame has minor nicks mostly at corners.
Claude Harrison was born in Leyland, Lancashire. He married the artist Audrey Johnson and their son is the potter Tobias Harrison. Claude Harrison studied at Preston School of Art 1939 – 41, Liverpool School of Art 1941 – 42, and the Royal College of Art 1947 – 50. He became a painter of murals, conversation pieces and imaginative groups of harlequins and masked figures with tempera a preferred medium. Numerous solo and mixed exhibitions including the Contemporary Fine Art Gallery at Eton, Phoenix Gallery Highgate, and the Royal Academy. Harrison published The Book of Tobit in 1969.
