Vivianne de Buren (Switzerland/Haiti, 1927-2016) oil painting on coarse burlap, fisherman bringing in nets to dry. Signed lower left “V. de Buren”. Circa 1950’s. Framed in wood frame. Measures 61in x 39in framed and 54in x 32in image only. Condition: Excellent vintage condition.
Born in Geneva Switzerland de Buren attended the Fine Arts School after working in her own studio for four years she won a scholarship to the Swiss Academy in Rome where she stayed for three years and studied with Pericle Fazzani. After Rome she went on to live in Haiti where she stayed until the end of 1964 during these years she had a number of exhibitions in Haiti and Jamaica as well as Sagittarius gallery in New York.
