Awesome circa 1920’s bronze figural group depicting an elephant holding an attacking lion at bay under its foot. Mounted to a large figured marble tray. We used this as a business card tray in our shop for many years and it never failed to make an impression. Tusks were gone when we purchased this and it’s just as well as they would have most likely been ivory and hence be illegal to sell across state lines today. A good cabinet shop or wood carver could carve wooden replacements fairly inexpensively if you wanted to replace them. The only other example of this sculpture that I have found is also without tusks so it’s possible this was intentional. Measures 12.5in height x 16.25in width x 10n depth overall and 12in height x 11in width x 5in depth bronze only. Condition: possibly missing tusks, minor chips at edges of marble.
