Wonderful mood to this watercolor on paper depicting a couple in reflective moods, one with elbows on the table top looking away and the other looking down at holding what looks to be a conch shell. Circa 1940’s. No visible signature but clearly the work of John Chester McPherson (American, 1885 - 1971). Artist’s name written in pen on backside by the previous owner. McPherson worked as an architect and artist working in oils and watercolor. He lived in New York City and taught at the Art Student’s League from 1941 until 1952. He’s associated with Midtown Galleries, Audobon Society of Watercolors, a member of the Society of Independent Artist’s where he also exhibited as well as exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In wooden frame, matted under glass. Measures 15in x 12in overall and 8.75in x 6.25in image only. Condition: painting in excellent condition. Framed has some space where gold trim should meet at corners but doesn’t quite.
