Original artwork by Andre Delfau of a dancer that looks like a red and gold anthropomorphized butterfly or moth. Gouache painting on artists paper. Measures approximately 12.5in x 19in. Paper is lightly wrinkled throughout, some tiny tears along the edges, bottom right corner torn off. Part of a large collection of dance and ballet costume design paintings. We purchased this directly from the attics of the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

Andre Delfau (French/American, 1914-2000) Costume and set designer for many important 20th century dance and ballet companies including Chicago Lyric Opera, The Royal Ballet - Great Britain, De-Cuevas, Harkness, Royal Danish. A life long friend of Ruth Page they married late in life after her first husband died. Costume Design for Ruth Page productions of Die-Fledermaus, Bullets and Bon-Bons, Mephistofela, Pygmalion, Conertino for Three, Carmina Burana, Catulli Carmina, Chain of Fools, Carmen for dance theatre of Harlem and Alice in Wonderland.
