Charles Merlette (French, 1861 - 1899), untitled, circa late 19th century, oil painting on wood panel, depicting a group of what I’m assuming are Prussian artillery officers taking a break standing near their cannon, the foremost is lighting a pipe. Signed lower left “Ch. Merlette”. Framed in old gesso frame with linen matting. Measures: 21in x 18in framed and 13.5in x 10.25in image only. Condition: Painting has areas of retouching around the edges of the panel, there are also a few minor retouches in the upper portion of the sky. Frame has many gesso losses and touch-ups.
