Wonderful terra cotta sculpture depicting an elderly rabbi teaching a boy how to lay Tefillin. Marked on the bottom: “Made in Czechoslovakia” with hand incised numerals “986 5”. The image is based on the painting "Laying Tefillin" by the painter Stanislaus Bender, painted ca. 1910 in Poland. Measures 10.5in height x 8.5in width x 5.5in depth. Condition: Rabbi’s hand has been broken and reglued, also is missing tip of finger, little boy is missing thumb.
