Bizarre kinetic sculpture prototype designed and fabricated by renowned 20th Century New York jeweler Otto Grun. Consisting of three fish, 1 gold plated, two 14k solid yellow gold, having diamond eyes, suspended from irregular form posts that are made of molten sterling silver jewelry findings. Posts are mounted to a hammered stainless steel plate sitting atop a rosewood box. Fish are floating above a rough jade rock within which is a crude battery operated mechanism of rotating magnets. When activated the jade magnets agitate magnets within the bellies of the fish causing them to ‘swim’. The entire grouping is covered with a glass dome that sits atop the rosewood box. Grun apparently devised this in 1985 and applied for a patent. A copy of that document is included. Also included are 3 additional prototype goldplated fish. Measures 13.25in wide x 8.5in deep x 17in tall. This must be disassembled prior to shipping and will require some minor reassembly upon receipt. The two 14k gold fish weigh 43 grams together, however they both contain a magnet which has added to their weight. Diamonds are about 2.5-3mm diameter. Condition: Excellent vintage condition.
