Large double-sided oil painting on canvas the front side depicting a portrait of a woman wearing an evening gown and make-up reclining in an armchair. Possibly a brothel madam? Her rendering reminds me of Ivan Albrights figures. Verso is a bizarre scene with a nude woman tied crucifixion style in a tree with a barely visible figure of a man slumped against the trunk with a jug in his right hand and the outline of a wolf off to the right of the canvas. Circa 1940’s. Unsigned. Measures 48in x 36in overall. Condition: a few tiny holes in the canvas noticeable under scrutiny when backlit. Some scuffs, scratches and stains scattered throughout. Still shows well and these little defects don’t detract from these compelling images.
