Great mood to this depression era watercolor painting by Karl Gasslander (American, 1905-1997) untitled, depicting an abstracted landscape scene with houses, signed and dated in pencil lower margin. Framed in contemporary black wood frame, matted under glass. Measures 30in x 26in overall and 23.5in x 18in image only. Condition: Painting in excellent condition, light wear to edges of frame.
Karl Gasslander, was an accomplished painter, writer, and teacher. Born in Rockford, Illinois, Gasslander was the art critic for the Evanston Daily News, and taught at the Evanston Collegiate Institute. He attended the Art Students League in New York, and in Illinois the Art Institute of Chicago as well as the Northwestern University School of Art. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists, the Chicago Society of Printmakers, and was a WPA artist under Louis Cheskin.
