Madame de Burman ( French, active 1788) Miniature watercolor painting, Circa 1790, depicting an allegorical scene with a young man pleading forgiveness from or praying to a tree that he has bandaged up around the base. If you are aware of the actual allegory please let me know, I’m very curious about it. Signed above the handle of the axe “M:d de Burman”. Framed in period silver frame. Measures 4.25in height x 4in width framed and 2.5in x 2.25in image only. Condition: Crack down center of image and again down right side.
