Jakob Emmanuel Gaisser (German, 1825 - 1899) “At the Table”, circa 2nd half 19th century, oil painting on canvas. Signed lower left. Charming German genre painting depicting a group of men hungrily carving a turkey or goose and sharing a taste with a maid. A scruffy little dog sits obediently beside it’s stout owner anticipating delicious scraps. Framed in gilt wood frame with brass nameplate. Measures 38in x 32in framed and 29.5in x 23.5in image only. Condition: top coat of lacquer is dull and if replaced would brighten up the painting considerably, overall light craquelure typical of paintings this age, white spot of discoloration at center bottom of image, small gap between frame and canvas bottom right corner. No visible restorations or repairs. Frame has scattered minor nicks and chips noticeable under scrutiny.
