The Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization who’s documented history traces back to mid-18th century London as one of the earliest fraternal societies. Chartered in the United States in 1819 as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows with the historic command to “visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and educate the orphan.” Today, the stated purposes of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows is to “improve and elevate the character of mankind by promoting the principles of friendship, love, truth, faith, hope, charity and universal justice.”
Yellow Garage Antiques dealer Estate Rescuers features a vintage Odd Fellows ceremonial “pickelhaube” style spiked helmet. Made of felt and leather the helmet is decorated with leather adornments and embelished with colorful embroidery and glass baubles. The manufacturers mark is stamped on the inside crown of the helmet. The helmet is in very good condition with only age and use appropriate wear as evidenced in the pictures. This is a helmet the anyone associated with the Odd Fellows would be proud to own.
