Yellow Garage dealer Running Horse Antiques offers an antique Victorian Marx Gutherz Carlsbad five well oyster plate. In setting a proper dinner table, Victorians used specialty dishes for each course. Oyster plates were extremely popular in the mid-late 1800s when oysters on the half shell were considered a delicacy and their harvesting and popularity was at its peak. All of the luxury European porcelain designers and decorators began producing these highly decorated specialized plates. The factory mark on this beautiful plate indicates it was produced in the late 1800s. The beautiful decoration is a combination of transfer design with hand painted embellishments and gold gilt accents. The plate is made of delicate porcelain and has an attractive scalloped edge. You will find this highly prized oyster plate is 8 7\8" in diameter and is in excellent condition as evidenced in the photos. There is a small firing mark as pictured on the underside of the plate. This lovely Victorian oyster plate will complement any collection and delight any true ostreaphile (a lover or aficionado of oysters).
