In 1697, French writer Charles Perrault published a story titled “The Master Cat” or “The Booted Cat.” The fairy tale was about a cat with human characteristics who used deceit and deception to gain power, wealth and the hand of a princess in marriage for his poor and low-born master. The fable, better known today as “Puss In Boots,” has remained a popular storyline throughout the years. The flamboyant cat with his high boots and feather hat, joins other well loved characters from other Perrault stories like “Cinderella” and “Little Red Riding Hood.”
In the 1830’s chocolate molds were used for the first time in Europe. The popularity of molds corresponds to the widespread availability of chocolate in solid blocks instead of the traditional liquid forms. Hermann Walter, the most famous mold maker in Berlin, founded the first German mold company around 1866. Named Hermann Walter, Berlin, they were prolific mold designers and manufacturers. By the late 1920’s the company was producing and selling about 5,000 different models.
Yellow Garage dealer The White Rabbit is featuring a rare H. Walter Puss in Boots chocolate mold. The mold is marked Germany and has the 1928 pressed trademark “H. WALTER BERLIN” in an oval. The mold has its three original clips and the Puss in Boots design is bold and crisp. It measures 6 1\4” wide by 4 3\8” high. The mold is in good display condition with age and use appropriate silver coating loss to the metal pieces. The pictures provide the best description. Walter mold collectors will surely cherish this rare Puss in Boots chocolate mold.
