The L.E. Knott Apparatus Company of Boston was one of the country’s largest suppliers of laboratory equipment and scientific instruments designed to study the principles of physics. Their product catalogs were the standard source of equipment and demonstrators in laboratories and colleges and schools nationwide from 1896 to the early 1930’s. One of Yellow Garage’s newest dealers James Maule has found a L.E. Knott Apparatus Company steam piston cut away demonstrator. Used in the classroom to show the inner workings of steam powered piston engines this model likely dates from the early 1900’s when steam was the dominant power source for a variety of machinery. The all original metal model is mounted on a wood base with age and use appropriate wear. L.E. Knott Apparatus Co. Boston is stamped into the cast on the front of the model. This stem piston cut away model will have a broad appeal to a wide variety of collectors.
