Presented by Yellow Garage dealer As Good As Old is this nicely carved statue of Lincoln in a familiar pose, perhaps from a photo or illustration from his early campaign days. The wood is southern yellow pine and he stands 18" tall on a 2 3/4" by 4" stepped base. Lincoln stands erect, dressed in a suit with vest and bow tie, his left hand clutching his lapel. For a folk carving in pine the form is remarkable and the likeness unmistakable. The initials "JR" and the date "1863" are carved into the back of the base. This is two years before his assassination and likely an early tribute to the "Great Emancipator." The condition is excellent with no losses and no repairs. The surface looks original with a few small scuffed areas. For an avid Lincoln collector, this carving represents a unique one of a kind hand made tribute.
