The Yellow Garage Antiques and Marge and Steve Roth of The Acorn Post offer a beautiful late 19th century Federal style mirror with a reverse glass painting. Artists have been working with reverse painting since before the European Middle Ages. Painting directly on the reverse side of framed glass was an artistic style used broadly in the mid to late 19th century, primarily on clocks and mirrors. The painting depicts a charming country home with fence and pastoral scene in the foreground. Both the painting and frame are in very good condition, while the mirror has some minimal silver loss. Please note this is accentuated in some photos due to the reflected black drape. The wooden backing appears to be original to the antique mirror and reverse painted tablet. This classic antique mirror with reverse painting will surely be a graceful, bright addition to your home decor.
